Käthe Sasso is over 87 years old and one of the last survivors of the era of the Austrian resistance against the Nazis. Before her deportation to Ravensbrück she had spent many torturous years in Gestapo prisons in Vienna. During this time, she became a witness and sufferer of the merciless Nazi justice system, which, alone in Austria, had 1,200 innocents executed by guillotine. She knew many of the victims personally and fought for years to finally gain the official recognition of the Republic of Austria that was due to these people. Her tireless struggle against collective oblivion finally, very belatedly, bore fruit, with the creation of a memorial at the Vienna Central Cemetery, the opening of which without doubt was one of the highlights of her life. The film not only tells the personal story of Käthe Sasso as a young resistance fighter – she also puts a face to many people, above all women, who heroically fought against the Nazis between 1938 and 1942 and were murdered for their beliefs.

Käthe Sasso ist über 87 Jahre alt und eine der letzten Überlebenden aus der Zeit des österreichischen Widerstandes gegen die Nazis. Vor ihrer Deportation nach Ravensbrück hat sie qualvolle Jahre in Gestapogefängnissen in Wien durchlebt. Dabei wurde sie Zeugin und Leidtragende der gnadenlosen NS-Justiz, die allein in Österreich an die 1.200 Unschuldige mit dem Fallbeil hinrichten ließ. Sie kannte viele der Opfer persönlich und hat jahrelang dafür gekämpft, dass die Republik diesen Menschen endlich offiziell die ihnen zustehende Würdigung zuteilwerden lässt. Ihr unermüdlicher Kampf gegen das kollektive Vergessen mündete schließlich sehr spät, aber doch in der Errichtung einer Gedenkstätte am Wiener Zentralfriedhof, deren Eröffnung jetzt im März 2013 zweifellos einen Höhepunkt in ihrem Leben bedeutet. Der Film erzählt nicht nur die persönliche Geschichte der Käthe Sasso als jugendliche Widerstandskämpferin, sondern sie gibt darin vielen Menschen, vorallem den Frauen, die zwischen 1938 und 1942 heldenhaft gegen die Nazis gekämpft haben und für ihre Gesinnung ermordet wurden, aber heute weitgehend vergessen sind, wieder ein Gesicht.
