Memorial plaque for Veza Canetti

As part of the project “VEZALIVES – Veza Canetti, a belated anniversary in Vienna. Art, literature, music, science”, a memorial plaque to the poet Veza Canetti was unveiled on the building at Ferdinandstraße 29, 1020 Vienna to mark the 50th anniversary of her death. The text on the plaque reads “The truth within is buried”. The long-forgotten Jewish poet Veza Canetti, née Venetiana Taubner (1897–1963) lived and wrote at this address until 1934. She died in England. She never returned from exile. Her literary work was sharp and empathetic and was only published posthumously.

Im Rahmen des Projekts „VEZALEBT – Veza Canetti, ein spätes Jubiläum in Wien. Kunst, Literatur, Musik, Wissenschaft“ wurde am Hause Ferdinandstraße 29, 1020 Wien, eine Widmungstafel für die Dichterin Veza Canetti aus Anlass ihres 50. Todestages enthüllt werden. Der Widmungstext auf der Gedenktafel lautet: „Die Wahrheit darin ist verschüttet“. Die lange verschwiegene jüdische Dichterin Veza Canetti, geborene Venetiana Taubner (1897–1963), lebte und schrieb bis 1934 in diesem Haus. Sie starb in England. Aus dem Exil kehrte sie nicht zurück. Ihr literarisches Werk voll Schärfe und Empathie wurde erst posthum veröffentlicht.
