Every year, the central seminar of erinnern.at brings together in a different federal province around 100 teachers from throughout Austria with academics for an intensive exchange on National Socialism and Holocaust and its repercussions. In 2013 in Innsbruck a subject is focused on which directly affects the teachers as a profession: upbringing and education under National Socialism and the repercussions of the Nazi ideals of upbringing and education on the Second Republic. The abuse in the public children’s homes, which has increasingly come under public scrutiny in recent years, must be placed in a historical context: are they relics of National Socialism or do they have their historical origins elsewhere? Which concepts and institutions favored the Nazis and what happened to the after the liberation in 1945. Are places such as Spiegelgrund in Vienna the extreme of these Nazi concepts? What models exist to counter the Nazi concepts of upbringing and education and which role do they play today? How was Nazi abuse carried out against children dealt with after 1945, and what became of the children? Academics and victims will speak on these questions and teachers will examine in workshops the relevance of these questions for their positions as role models and their work with children.

Das Zentrale Seminar von erinnern.at bringt jedes Jahr in einem anderen Bundesland etwa 100 LehrerInnen aus ganz Österreich mit WissenschafterInnen zu einem intensiven Austausch über Nationalsozialismus und Holocaust sowie deren Auswirkung zusammen. 2013 steht in Innsbruck ein Thema im Mittelpunkt, das die Profession der LehrerInnen direkt betrifft: Erziehung und Schule während des Nationalsozialismus und die Auswirkungen der nationalsozialistischen Erziehungs- und Bildungsvorstellungen auf die Zweite Republik. Auch die gerade in den letzten Jahren ins Bewusstsein einer breiten Öffentlichkeit getretenen Missstände in der Heimerziehung erlangen nach ihrer historischen Verortung: Sind sie Relikte der nationalsozialistischen Phase oder sind sie historisch anders zu verorten? Welche Konzepte und Institutionen favorisieren die Nationalsozialisten, und was geschah mit diesen nach der Befreiung 1945? Sind Orte wie der Spiegelgrund in Wien das Extrem dieser NS-Konzepte? Welche Gegenmodelle zu nationalsozialistischen Erziehungs- und Bildungskonzepten existieren und welche Rolle spielen sie heute? Wie wurde mit der NS-Gewalt gegen Kinder nach 1945 umgegangen? Wie mit den Opfern dieser Gewalt? Zu diesen und weiteren Fragen werden sowohl WissenschafterInnen wie auch Betroffene sprechen, und in Workshops werden LehrerInnen die Relevanz dieser Fragen für ihr Rollenbild sowie ihre Arbeit mit SchülerInnen überprüfen.
