In the planned publication, the results of the research project “Following Scattered Traces” carried out by the” Association for the Preservation and Cultural Use of the Kobersdorf Synagogue” will be published. Through intensive archive and field research, a series of new findings could be gained on the history of the Jews in Burgenland, which will be contained in the publication. It also deals with the Jewish former “Seven Communities” (Schewa Kehilot) of Burgenland and several related communities. Specifically, the following ten communities will be presented: Kittsee, Gattendorf, Frauenkirchen, Eisenstadt, Mattersburg, Bad Sauerbrunn, Neudörfl, Kobersdorf, Lackenbach und Deutschkreutz. Each chapter on a community contains points of focus, such as the history of the Jewish community, topography of the former Jewish quarter, location, appearance and fate of the local synagogue (all no longer in existence, with one exception) or prayer house, and much more. The publication is at the same time a book of remembrance and guide book to the sites of Jewish past. It gives an overview of the history and topography of extinguished Jewish communities and permits an insight into the lives and fates of their former residents.

Mit der geplanten Publikation werden die Ergebnisse des vom „Verein zur Erhaltung und kulturellen Nutzung der Synagoge Kobersdorf“ durchgeführten Forschungsprojekts „Auf verwehten Spuren“ publiziert. Durch intensive Archiv- und Feldforschung konnte eine Reihe neuer Erkenntnisse zur Geschichte der Jüdinnen und Juden im Burgenland gewonnen werden, die in der Publikation ihren Niederschlag finden. Behandelt werden die ehemaligen jüdischen „Siebengemeinden“ (Schewa Kehilot) des Burgenlands und einige ihrer Filialgemeinden. Konkret werden folgende zehn Gemeinden vorgestellt: Kittsee, Gattendorf, Frauenkirchen, Eisenstadt, Mattersburg, Bad Sauerbrunn, Neudörfl, Kobersdorf, Lackenbach und Deutschkreutz. Jedes Ortskapitel beinhaltet inhaltliche Schwerpunkte, wie Geschichte der jüdischen Gemeinde, Topographie des ehemaligen jüdischen Viertels, Standort, Aussehen und Schicksal der örtlichen Synagoge (mit einer Ausnahme alle abgekommen) bzw. des Bethauses und einiges mehr. Die Publikation ist gleichzeitig Gedenkbuch undReiseführer zu den Stätten jüdischer Vergangenheit. Sie gibt einen Überblick über Geschichte und Topographie der ausgelöschten jüdischen Gemeinden und erlaubt einen Blick auf Leben und Schicksal ihrer ehemaligen BewohnerInnen.
