The book deals with a so far unknown chapter of the Nazi history of the region Oberkrain, which was subject to a reign of terror by the SS Gauleiter Friedrich Rainer from 1941 to 1945. The author of the book Stane Šinkovec is one of the few authentic reporters to keep a detailed record of the events in Vigaun/Begunje. The book documents the connections between the regional center of terror Vigaun/Begunje and the random hostage shootings there, the extermination of entire Slovene villages in the surrounding area, the deportation of those unwilling to collaborate to the prisoner of war camps in the German Reich and deportations to concentration camps such as Dachau, Ravensbrück, Flossenburg or Mauthausen and Loibl concentration camps, internment in labor camps such as Kraut and Krieseldorf in Carinthia , Reichenau near Innsbruck (Tyrol) and the death transports to the extermination camp Auschwitz-Birkenau. For the first time, the book provides a chronology of the admissions to Begunje, the transfer to other camps and a complete list of names of all inmates. Also for the first time, he names those responsible, the desk-job criminals, the henchmen, the murderers.

Das Buch behandelt ein bisher wenig bekanntes Kapitel der NS-Geschichte der Region „Oberkrain“, die von 1941 bis 1945 dem Kärntner SS-Gauleiter Friedrich Rainer unterstand und von ihm durch Terrormaßnahmen regiert wurde. Der Autor des Buches Stane Šinkovec ist einer der wenigen authentischen Berichterstatter, die über die Vorgänge in Vigaun/Begunje genauestens Buch geführt haben. Das Buch belegt die Zusammenhänge zwischen dem regionalen Terrorzentrum Vigaun/Begunje und den willkürlichen Geiselerschießungen vor Ort, der Auslöschung ganzer slowenischer Dörfer in der Umgebung, der Verschickung der kollaborationsunwilligen Bevölkerung in Kriegsgefangenenlager (STALAG) im Deutschen Reich und der Deportation in Konzentrationslager wie Dachau, Ravensbrück, Flossenbürg oder Mauthausen und Loibl-KZ, der Einweisung in Arbeitserziehungslager (AEL) wie Kraut und Krieselsdorf in Kärnten, Reichenau bei Innsbruck (Tirol) und den Todestransporten in Vernichtungslager wie Auschwitz-Birkenau. Das Buch liefert erstmals eine genaue Chronologie der Einlieferungen nach Begunje, der Überstellungen in andere Lager sowie eine vollständige namentliche Erfassung aller Häftlinge. Es nennt erstmals auch die Namen der Verantwortlichen, der Schreibtischtäter, der Handlanger sowie der Mörder.
