The aim pf the present project is to publish for the first time in German translation a representative collection of literary texts by contemporary Argentine-Jewish authors, with commentaries, notes and scientific accompanying studies. In the history of Argentine immigration and emigration, there have been numerous (predominantly Jewish) Austrians and people from the countries of the Habsburg Empire and from Germany, who have found refuge in Argentina at various times (people forced out of tsarist Russia as a result of pogroms, Holocaust survivors, economic refugees). The selected texts are, on the one hand, of a high literary standard, on the other they also contain a great potential for recall. Argentina was selected as a reference country because, as the most immigration-friendly of the South American nations, since the 19th century it has accepted the proportionally highest number of Jewish refugees and asylum seekers from Europe, North Africa and the Middle East. At present, Buenos Aires remains the city with the largest number of Jewish residents in Latin America.

Das vorliegende Projekt hat sich zum Ziel gesetzt, eine repräsentative Sammlung literarischer Texte von zeitgenössischen argentinisch-jüdischen AutorInnen, versehen mit Kommentaren, Anmerkungen und wissenschaftlichen Begleitstudien, erstmals in deutscher Übersetzung herauszugeben. Es hat in der Geschichte der argentinischen Ein- und Auswanderung zahlreiche (vor allem auch jüdische) ÖsterreicherInnen und Personen aus den Ländern der K&K-Monarchie sowie aus Deutschland gegeben, die in Argentinien zu unterschiedlichen Zeiten Zuflucht gefunden haben (durch Pogrome aus dem zaristischen Russland Vertriebene, Holocaust-Überlebende, Wirtschaftsflüchtlinge). Die ins Auge gefassten Texte haben zwar einerseits literarischen Anspruch, bergen aber andererseits auch ein großes Erinnerungspotential. Argentinien wurde deshalb als Bezugsland gewählt, weil es seit dem späten 19. Jahrhundert als einwanderungsfreundlichster Staat Lateinamerikas proportional am meisten jüdische Flüchtlinge und Asylsuche aus Europa, Nordafrika und dem Nahen Osten aufgenommen hat. Buenos Aires ist zurzeit immer noch die Stadt mit den meisten jüdischen EinwohnerInnen Lateinamerikas.
