Taking the “Reich region Carinthia” (to which today’s East Tyrol belonged) as an example, this book will show, how state order, combined with the actions of greedy “aryanizers”, allowed an almost entirely complete expropriation of the Jewish population of Carinthia. Due to the small number of Jews living there, the negative stereotype of the Jews had to be combined with that of the Slovenes in order to achieve the desired effect within the non-Jewish population. With regard to “aryanizations”, it was said that an “economic restructuring” was made appealing to the Carinthian population, not only at the expense of the Slovene but also the Jewish minority. One part of the “loot” was raked in by the treasury in the form of property seizures and absurd tax demands. The other was shared by the “aryanizers” (mostly “old fighters” or the competition of the Jewish businesses). The book attempts to break down the mechanisms and the scope of expropriation and theft of Jewish property between 1938 and 1945 and the localized area of Carinthia. In addition the social and political consequences of the “planned aryanizations” in the years after 1945 are portrayed.

Im Buch wird am Beispiel des „Gaues Kärnten“ (dem das heutige Osttirol angehörte) gezeigt, wie staatliche Order kombiniert mit dem Einsatz von profitgierigen „Ariseurinnen“ und „Ariseuren“ eine nahezu lückenlose Beraubung der Kärntner jüdischen Bevölkerung ermöglichte. Aufgrund der geringen Anzahl von Jüdinnen und Juden vor Ort musste das „Feindbild Jude“ mit dem des „Slowenen“ kombiniert werden, um den erwünschten Wirkungsgrad innerhalb der nichtjüdischen Bevölkerung zu erreichen. In Bezug auf „Arisierungen“ heißt dies, dass den Kärntnerinnen und Kärntnern eine „ökonomische Umstrukturierung“ nicht nur auf Kosten der slowenischen, sondern auch der jüdischen Minderheit schmackhaft gemacht wurden. Den einen Teil der Beute strich der Fiskus anhand von Vermögensbeschlagnahmungen und abstrusesten Steuerforderungen ein. Den anderen teilten sich die „Ariseurinnen“ und „Ariseure“ (meist „Alte Kämpfer“ bzw. KonkurrentInnen der jüdischen Unternehmer) untereinander auf. Das Buch versucht, sowohl die Mechanismen als auch die Tragweite von Enteignung bzw. Raub des jüdischen Besitzes in den Jahren 1938 bis 1945 und für den lokal begrenzten Raum Kärnten aufzuschlüsseln. Daneben werden die gesellschaftlichen und politischen Folgen des „Arisierungsvorhabens“ für die Zeit nach 1945 dargelegt.
