Richard Strauss, the fair-weather composer with works that were seldom critical, lived in a world of upheaval. In contrast to the work of Kurt Weil. Strauss, who for a long time ignored what was going on around him and Kurt Weil, who actively criticized his surroundings, creating a counterpoint to the Rosenkavalier. Both are an example of the possibilities of influencing culture and society and looking out for ascendancies. Seventy-five years ago, within the scope of the Reich Music Festival in Düsseldorf, the exhibition “degenerate music” was opened. While the composer Kurt Weil was ostracized, Richard Strauss conducted his “Celebratory Prelude” at the opening concert. In particular, the aspect that Richard Strauss – like Karajan – was able to successfully find a place in the art world while barely being subject to criticism after the war, is to become a focus of this film particularly in view of his anniversary. Strauss’ work with Stefan Zweig on “Die schweigsame Frau” will of course form part of the documentary, since as a result of Stefan Zweig’s endangerment, the horrors of the Nazi regime could no longer be ignored. This will form a key part of the film.

Richard Strauss, der Schönwetterkomponist mit selten gesellschaftskritischen Stücken lebte in einer Welt des Umbruchs. Ganz im Gegensatz zu den Arbeiten Kurt Weils. Strauss, der lange die Vorgänge um sich herum ignoriert, und Kurt Weill der aktiv kritisiert und mit der Dreigroschenoper das Gegenstück zum Rosenkavalier schafft. Beide stehen exemplarisch für die Möglichkeiten Einfluss zu nehmen auf Kultur und Gesellschaft und auf Einflüsse zu achten. Vor 75 Jahren wurde im  Rahmen der Reichmusiktage in Düsseldorf die Ausstellung „Entartete Musik“ eröffnet. Während in der Schau auch der Komponist Kurt Weill als verfemt angeprangert wird, dirigiert Richard Strauss beim Eröffnungskonzert sein „Festliches Präludium“. Insbesondere der Aspekt, dass Strauss in Österreich auch nach dem Krieg - ähnlich wie Karajan - nahezu kritiklos wieder im Kunstbetrieb Fuß fassen konnte, soll gerade zu dessen Jubiläum ins Zentrum des Stückes gerückt werden. Interviewpartner sind namhafte österreichische Dirigenten. Selbstverständlich wird gerade Strauss' Zusammenarbeit mit dem jüdischen Stefan Zweig zu "Die schweigsame Frau" ein Thema des Filmes darstellen, da durch die Gefährdung des Librettisten Stefan Zweig für Strauss der Schrecken der NS-Zeit nicht mehr zu ignorieren war. Das wird ein großes Thema des Filmes sein.
