Next year is the 75th anniversary of the Hitler-Stalin pact and with it the preemption of the division of Europe. People who had thought themselves safe in Baltic states and in the Soviet Union had to continue to fight for their lives: Jewish refugees, who were arrested imprisoned in camps under suspicion of being “German spies”, are just one example. Other fates are particularly terrible: women who came from the gulag were put in concentration camps or the reverse, many of the Austria. And many fates which remain unknown. In addition to a “Kreuz and Quer” documentary, which has already been made, a DVD edition is planned, which will contain extensive additional material in the form of interviews in their full length and background material – part of this information will also be provided by extending the website with available film material. In addition to the “Kreuz und Quer” documentary “Lost Lives”, a director’s cut will be produced to be shown at events. In addition, a lasting analysis of the subject will be presented in the form of a book or a brochure. The project will not only be presented at Austrian events but also in Kazakhstan and in the cultural forums of other affected countries.

Nächstes Jahr jährt sich der Hitler-Stalin-Pakt zum 75. Mal und damit die Vorwegnahme der Teilung Europas. Menschen, die glaubten, in den baltischen Staaten, aber auch der UdSSR in Sicherheit zu sein, mussten weiter um ihr Leben kämpfen: Jüdische Flüchtlinge, die als „deutsche Spione“ verdächtigt und damit in Lagern interniert wurden, sind nur ein Beispiel. Andere Schicksale sind besonders furchtbar: Frauen kamen aus dem GULAG ins KZ oder auch den umgekehrten Weg. Darunter viele ÖsterreicherInnen – und viele Schicksale, die nicht bekannt sind. Neben einer „kreuz und quer“-Dokumentation, die bereits entstanden ist, soll eine DVD-Edition entstehen, die umfangreiches Zusatzmaterial in Form der Interviews in Langform bzw. Hintergrundmaterial bietet – ein Teil dieser Informationen soll auch über eine Ausweitung der Homepage mit vorhandenem Filmmaterial erfolgen. Neben der „kreuz und quer“-Dokumentation „Verlorene Leben“ wird ein Director’s cut erstellt, der bei Veranstaltungen verwendet wird. Weiters soll vor allem eine nachhaltige Auseinandersetzung mit dem Thema in Buch- bzw. Broschürenform vorgelegt werden. Das Projekt wird nicht nur in Österreich bei Veranstaltungen präsentiert, sondern auch in Kasachstan und gemeinsam mit den Kulturforen in betroffenen Ländern.
