Stones of remembrance in 2014

Steine der Erinnerung im Jahre 2014

 

For 2014, 45 stations are planned in ten districts. Stones of remembrance are brass plaques mounted in the pavement. They remember former Jewish residents who were deported and murdered by the Nazis. Stones of remembrance give these former Viennese citizens their name back and a place in their former homeland. For the families they are symbolic gravestones. For the Viennese they are incitements to remember.

Für 2014 sind 45 Stationen in zehn Bezirken geplant. Steine der Erinnerung sind im Gehsteig eingelassene Messingplatten. Sie erinnern an frühere jüdische BewohnerInnen, die von den Nazis deportiert und ermordet worden sind. Steine der Erinnerung geben den ehemaligen WienerInnen wieder ihren Namen und einen Platz in ihrer früheren Heimat. Für die Angehörigen sind sie symbolische Grabsteine. Für die WienerInnen sind sie ein Denk- und Fühlanstoß.
