The first initiative of the “Association for a Culture of Remembrance in Graz”, established in 2012 with the aim of implementing projects for the benefit of the victims of National Socialism, is the implementation of the project “stumbling blocks” by the Cologne artist Karl Demnig. 75 years after the start of the Nazi terror in Austria, the aim is to create signs of remembrance for victims of National Socialism in Graz as well, in such a way that they are accessible to everyone in Graz. In this way, the fates of the Styrians murdered, deported, expelled or driven to suicide under the Nazis will be remembered. All groups of victims from Styria will be remembered. The Association will undertake the main organizational tasks.

Als erste Initiative des im November 2012 gegründeten „Vereins für Gedenkkultur in Graz“, der das Ziel hat, Projekte umzusetzen, die Opfern des Nationalsozialismus zugutekommen, wurde die Umsetzung des Projekts „Stolpersteine“ des Kölner Künstlers Gunter Demnig entschieden. Ziel ist, 75 Jahre nach dem Beginn des NS-Terrors in Österreich auch in Graz im öffentlichen Raum Erinnerungszeichen für Opfer des Nationalsozialismus zu setzen, auf eine für alle Menschen in Graz öffentlich zugängliche Weise. Damit soll an das Schicksal jener SteirerInnen erinnert werden, die im Nationalsozialismus ermordet, deportiert, vertrieben oder in den Suizid getrieben worden sind. Es wird aller steirischer Opfergruppen gedacht. Der Verein übernimmt die Aufgaben der wesentlichen Koordinationsaufgaben.
