Safeguarding and Remembrance: new permanent exhibition at the Sigmund Freud Museum Vienna

Bewahren und Erinnern: Neue Daueraustellung im Sigmund Freud Museum Wien

 

With the assistance of selected experts from the fields of psychoanalysis, museology, historical science and the arts, a detailed concept will be drawn up for the “historical rooms”, the former practice of Sigmund Freud, and for the other exhibition rooms, the former residential rooms of his family. Berggasse 19 is a place where future museum visitors can read of the consequences of the regime of terror of the Third Reich in a palpable way and by means of specific autobiographies: the all-encompassing destruction, the expulsion and elimination of culture, of knowledge and humanity.

In Zusammenarbeit mit ausgewählten ExpertInnen aus den Bereichen Psychoanalyse, Museologie, Geschichtswissenschaften und Kunst wird ein Feinkonzept für die „historischen Räume“, die ehemalige Praxis von Sigmund Freud, und für die weitere Ausstellungsfläche, die ehemaligen Wohnräume der Familie, konzipiert. Berggasse 19 ist ein Ort, von dem zukünftige MuseumsbesucherInnen auf augenfälligste Weise und anhand konkreter Lebensgeschichten die Folgen des Terrorregimes des „Dritten Reiches“ ablesen können: die allumfassende Zerstörung, Vertreibung und Vernichtung von Kultur, von Wissen und Menschlichkeit.
