In 2009, the National Fund was entrusted with planning and implementing the renewal of the Austrian exhibition at Auschwitz. Taking into account the Federal Procurement Act, the National Fund is to contract all necessary services for the realization of the renewal. In addition the National Fund is responsible for the renovation of block 17. The renovation is financed from separate means (Austrian contribution to the Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial Foundation).

Der Nationalfonds wurde 2009 von der Bundesregierung (MRV Juli, 2009) mit der Planung und Abwicklung der Neugestaltung der österreichischen Ausstellung in Auschwitz betraut. Unter Berücksichtigung des Bundesvergabegesetzes sind vom Nationalfonds sämtliche für die Realisierung der Neugestaltung erforderlichen Beauftragungen vorzunehmen. Der Nationalfonds ist zudem mit der Sanierung des Ausstellungsgebäudes Block 17 betraut. Die Sanierung wird separat finanziert (österreichischer Zustiftungsbeitrag zur Gedenkstätte Auschwitz-Birkenau).
