Seventy years after the war, the Institute’s 25th Summer Academy will deal with different aspects of synagogues in Europe that were defiled and their communities plundered but whose buildings have nonetheless stood the test of time. Speakers from all over Europe will shed light on the subject from different angles: historians and cultural scientists, architects, representatives from private initiatives, public institutions and the field of politics. The conference is being held in cooperation with the Vienna Lecture Series and, in addition to the experts in this area, is also open to a wider public of all ages, with free entry.

Die 25. Sommerakademie des Instituts wird sich 70 Jahre nach Kriegsende mit unterschiedlichen Aspekten von Synagogen in Europa beschäftigen, die im Nationalsozialismus beschädigt und ihrer Gemeinden beraubt wurden, deren Gebäude die Zeit jedoch überstanden haben. ReferentInnen aus ganz Europa sollen das Thema aus unterschiedlicher Perspektive beleuchten: HistorikerInnen und KulturwissenschafterInnen, ArchitektInnen, VertreterInnen von Privatinitiativen, aber auch von öffentlichen Institutionen und der Politik werden zu Vorträgen eingeladen. Die Tagung findet in Zusammenarbeit mit den Wiener Vorlesungen statt und steht bei freiem Eintritt über die Fachkreise hinaus einem breiten interessierten Publikum aller Altersstufen offen.
