Monuments and memorials shape the appearance of Vienna’s Inner City. In order to be able to convey to young people their history and how to address it, the Austrian Mauthausen Committee has conceived a modular concept in order to bring young people closer to the monuments and memorials on Vienna’s Heldenplatz. This basic module serves as the basis for the other modules, which can be combined according to content or time available. The modules were compiled on the basis of their content and the distance between the respective locations. In total, 30 guides will be trained to lead tours with the young people for the individual modules. The educational program is adaptable for different age ranges and levels of education and places special emphasis on young people. It is comprised of module based tours. The wide range of ways in which the information is imparted aim at constant interaction with the youths, conveyance of long term knowledge, producing a link with the present and increasing awareness of the importance of getting along and civil courage. The project is aimed at all people who are interested at taking a closer look at Vienna’s contemporary history around the Ring. The Mauthausen Committee Austria shall undertake the entire coordination, organization and administration of the project. A project advisory board will also be set up, comprising the Jewish Community Vienna, the Association “erinnern.at”, the “Association Memorial Service”, the Documentation Centre of Austrian Resistance and the Mauthausen Committee Austria.

Denkmäler und Gedenkstätten prägen das Bild der Wiener Innenstadt. Um die Geschichte und den Umgang damit Jugendlichen und Erwachsenen zu vermitteln, konzipierte das MKÖ ein in Modulen aufgebautes Konzept, mit dem die Denkmäler und Gedenkstätten am Wiener Heldenplatz den Jugendlichen nähergebracht werden. Dieses Grundmodul bildete die Basis für die weiteren Module, die nach Inhalten und Zeitressourcen individuell kombinierbar sind. Die Zusammenstellung der Module erfolgte auf Basis der Vermittlungsinhalte sowie der Entfernung der jeweiligen Orte. Insgesamt sollen 30 VermittlerInnen ausgebildet werden, die mit den Jugendlichen Rundgänge zu den konzipierten Modulen durchführen. Das Vermittlungsprogramm reagiert auf die unterschiedlichen Altersstufen und Bildungsschichten mit einem besonderen Augenmerk auf die jugendliche Zielgruppe und besteht aus modulartig aufgebauten Rundgängen. Die verschiedensten Arten der Vermittlung zielen auf eine ständige Interaktion mit den Jugendlichen und auf langfristige Wissensvermittlung, Herstellung eines Gegenwartbezugs und Sensibilisierung für ein Miteinander sowie mehr Zivilcourage hin. Die Zielgruppe des Projekts sind alle Menschen, die daran interessiert sind, sich mit der Zeitgeschichte Wiens rund um den Ring näher auseinanderzusetzen. Die gesamte Koordination, Organisation und Verwaltung des Projekts wird vom MKÖ übernommen. Zusätzlich wird ein Projektbeirat mit VertreterInnen aus der IKG, dem „Verein erinnern.at“, dem „Verein Gedenkdienst“, dem DÖW, dem MKÖ sowie weiteren Opferverbänden und Wiener Gedenkinitiativen eingerichtet.
