Description

The 8 May 2015 marked the 70th anniversary of the unconditional capitulation by the German Wehrmacht. This date marked the end of the National Socialist regime and the criminal war of aggression and extermination. The Austrian Mauthausen Committee staged a free concert by the Vienna Symphony Orchestra to mark the anniversary of the liberation on 8 May 2015, where Beethoven’s Symphony no. 9 was performed under the musical direction of Phillipe Jordan. The concert by the Vienna Symphony Orchestra was accompanied by speeches by prominent speakers and contemporary eyewitnesses.

Am 8. Mai 2015 jährte sich zum 70. Mal die bedingungslose Kapitulation der Deutschen Wehrmacht. Dieses Datum markiert das Ende des nationalsozialistischen Regimes und des verbrecherischen Angriffs- und Vernichtungskrieges. Das MKÖ veranstaltete ein Gratiskonzert der Wiener Symphoniker zum Tag der Befreiung am 8. Mai 2015 am Heldenplatz, wo Ludwig van Beethovens Symphonie Nr. 9 unter der musikalischen Leitung von Phillipe Jordan aufgeführt wurde. Das Konzert der Wiener Symphoniker wurde durch verschiedene, prominente RednerInnen und ZeitzeugInnen umrahmt.
