Audio stumbling stones for Salzburg, A radio-school project against forgetting

Hörstolpersteine für Salzburg. Ein Radio – Schulprojekt gegen das Vergessen

 

In 2012, the Radio Factory, in cooperation with five other independent radio stations in Austria and Germany, produced 60 “audio stumbling stones”. They are short radio broadcasts on the biographies of victims, which provide more than the bare facts printed on the stumbling stones. These short audio biographies pop up unannounced in the middle of the radio stations broadcasts, in the middle of a playlist or a popular radio show. Ten further audio stumbling stones are planned with the students of the Academic High School in Salzburg. In addition, the Radio Factory will educate the children about radio production and the concept of the audio stumbling stones. The youngsters will then choose a stumbling stone to which they wish to add sound and implement their idea with the support of their teachers and the Radio Factory. The close relation to the area where they live, their personal efforts to come to terms with the life story of a specific victim of the Nazis, the development of the result into a radio segment and ist broadcast on the radio help this encounter with the subject exciting and lasting. The segments are both broadcast in the program of the Radio Factory and available online on the Salzburg Stumbling Stones website and the audio stumbling stones website. If the project is successful, and if the necessary financial means are available, the project will be continued with other schools in Salzburg with the ultimate aim of making a radio segment for all of the stumbling stones in Salzburg.

Im Jahr 2012 hat die Radiofabrik gemeinsam mit fünf weiteren Freien Radios in Österreich und Deutschland 60 so genannte Hörstolpersteine produziert. Das sind kurze Radiosendungen zur Biographie der Opfer, die über die wenigen Daten auf den Pflastersteinen hinausgehen. Diese kurzen Audio-Biographien tauchen unvermutet in den Programmen der Radiosender auf, mitten in einer Musikplaylist oder einer beliebigen Radiosendung. Es sollen zehn weitere Hörstolpersteine gemeinsam mit SchülerInnen des Akademischen Gymnasiums in Salzburg produziert werden. In weiterer Folge soll den SchülerInnen von der Radiofabrik das Radiomachen und das Konzept der Hörstolpersteine vermittelt werden. Die Jugendlichen suchen sich dann selbst einen Stolperstein aus, den sie vertonen möchten und setzen ihre Idee mit Unterstützung der LehrerInnen und der Radiofabrik um. Der Bezug zum eigenen Wohnumfeld, die persönliche Auseinandersetzung mit der konkreten Lebensgeschichte eines NS-Opfers, die radiophone Umsetzung der Ergebnisse und Publikation im Radio machen den Umgang mit dem Thema für die Jugendlichen spannend und nachhaltig. Die Sendungen werden einerseits im Programm der Radiofabrik ausgestrahlt, andererseits online auf der Stolpersteine-Salzburg-Seite und der Hörstolpersteinseite online nachhörbar gespeichert. Bei erfolgreicher Umsetzung und entsprechender Finanzierungsmöglichkeit ist eine Weiterführung dieses Pilotprojekts mit anderen Salzburger Schulen geplant, um langfristig alle Salzburger Stolpersteine vertonen zu können.
