Description
The project aims are to establish, as thoroughly as possible, the names of all those who fled Austria for Portugal and record them in a database. Furthermore, the project organizers intend to produce a report on the project for later publication, with a focus on the escape stories and biographical outlines, bringing the subject-area of exile and emigration onto a level of their own. In the event that a sufficient number of visually appealing artefacts can be found, an exhibition will be planned. In order to achieve this, preparatory research shall be carried out in Austria, Portugal, Germany, the USA and Israel. In addition, appeals will be made for Portugal refugees and their descendants to get in touch, in the hope that they may be able to provide private documents and objects for the project.

Ziele sind die möglichst vollständige Erhebung aller Portugalflüchtlinge aus Österreich und deren Erfassung in eine Datenbank. Des Weiteren soll ein umfangreicher Projektbericht mit dem Ziel einer späteren Publikation erfolgen, die den Fokus auf Fluchtgeschichten und biographische Skizzen legt und welche die Thematik von Exil und Emigration auf eine individuelle Ebene bringt. Bei Auffinden einer ausreichenden Menge optisch ansprechender Objekte ist auch eine Ausstellung geplant. Dafür werden Archivrecherchen in Österreich, Portugal, Deutschland, den USA und Israel vorbereitet. Zudem werden mittels Aufrufen Portugalflüchtlinge und deren Nachkommen gesucht, die vor allem private Erinnerungsdokumente und Gegenstände beisteuern könnten.
