Renewal and enhnced visibility of the memorial at the Seefeld Forest Cemetery in Tyrol

Neugestaltung und Sichtbarmachung der Gedenkstätte am Seefelder Waldfriedhof/Tirol

 

The memorial at Seefeld forest cemetery shall be redesigned and furnished with relevant information. The text for the memorial will be written by Prof. Dr. Thomas Albrich and Niko Hofinger and will be reproduced on a plaque at the entrance to the ceremony. The architect Michael Prachensky, who has already planned and built the synagogue in Innsbruck in 1993, has submitted a draft for the cemetery with 63 stone cubes, which should make the number of victims readily visible. These cubes will be scattered on the grassy area and shall recall an old Jewish cemetery. As such, following on from the renovation and visualization of the medieval cemetery Judenbühel in Innsbruck, another part of Jewish history in Tyrol has been restored and preserved for future generations.

Es soll die Gedenkstätte am Seefelder Waldfriedhof neugestaltet und mit entsprechenden Informationen versehen werden. Der Text für die Gedenkstätte wird von den Historikern Prof. Dr. Thomas Albrich und Niko Hofinger verfasst und auf einer Tafel am Eingang des Friedhofs angebracht werden. Architekt Michael Prachensky, der schon 1993 die Synagoge Innsbruck geplant und gebaut hat, legt zu der Gedenkstätte einen Entwurf mit 63 Steinwürfeln vor, welche die Zahl der Opfer sichtbar machen soll. Diese Würfel werden auf der vorgesehenen Grasfläche verteilt und an einen alten jüdischen Friedhof erinnern. Somit wird, nach der Aufarbeitung und Sichtbarmachung des mittelalterlichen Friedhofs Judenbühel in Innsbruck, wieder ein Teil der jüdischen Geschichte in Tirol aufgearbeitet und für kommende Generationen erhalten.
