Project

Description

The Jewish seniors’ club “Café Centropa” was created as a result of the close connection that developed between Centropa’s interviewer Tanja Eckstein and the Holocaust survivors during the lengthy and detailed interviews she carried out for the association “Centropa”. The Jewish seniors’ club has now been around for almost eleven years. Meetings are held on a monthly basis and it welcomes many guests every year, such as school classes from various schools in Vienna, Graz, Berlin, several cities in the US, who are important and interesting interlocutors for the club’s members. Teachers talk to each other and learn from the conversations with the Holocaust survivors. To the delight of the survivors, the school students and teachers not only come for the high holidays, when the club is often attended by up to 120 people. The other monthly meetings are attended by between 40 and 80 Holocaust survivors.
