Memorial in remembrance of the former Jewish community of Mattersburg

The association plans to erect a memorial in memory of the former Jewish community of the Municipality of Mattersburg. Until 1938, Mattersburg, together with Eisenstadt, Deutschkreutz, Kobersdorf, Lackenbach, Frauenkirchen and Kittsee, belonged to the “Seven Jewish Communities of Burgenland”, the so called “Schewa Kehilot”. The association plans to erect a memorial on the property where the synagogue used to stand. It consists of three metal columns bearing an inscription, a metal passage and several benches. The base is a concrete plinth. The columns and passage are illuminated. The memorial will foreseeably be completed in 2017.

Zur Erinnerung an die ehemalige Jüdische Gemeinde Mattersburg soll eine Gedenkstätte errichtet werden. Mattersburg gehörte bis 1938 – mit Eisenstadt, Deutschkreutz, Kobersdorf, Lackenbach, Frauenkirchen und Kittsee – zu den „Sieben Jüdischen Gemeinden des Burgenlandes“, den sogenannten „Schewa Kehilot“. Der Verein plant auf dem Grundstück der ehemaligen Synagoge eine Gedenkstätte zu errichten. Sie besteht aus drei Metallstelen mit Beschriftung, einem Durchgang aus Metall und mehreren Sitzbänken. Fundament ist ein Betonsockel. Stelen und Durchgang sind beleuchtet. Geplant ist, die Gedenkstätte 2017 fertigzustellen.
