“Three Generations. Shoah and National Socialism in Collective Family Memory” is volume 2 of the series published by the Institute for the Jewish History of Austria and brings together selected lectures from the International Summer Academy of the same institute. The individual contributions of the conference publication deal with the collective family memory of victim and perpetrator families that were shaped, traumatized, moved and changed by their experiences during the Nazi period. The way families deal with the experiences and trauma, and the way in which parents come to terms with them themselves, and how they do or don’t talk to their children about them, is decisive for the way the second and third generation feel the effects and repercussions of this period.

„Drei Generationen. Shoah und Nationalsozialismus im Familiengedächtnis“ ist Band 2 der Schriftenreihe des Instituts für jüdische Geschichte Österreichs und vereint ausgewählte Vorträge der internationalen Sommerakademie des selbigen Instituts. Die einzelnen Beiträge des Tagungsbandes beschäftigen sich mit dem Familiengedächtnis von Opfer und Täter-Familien, die durch die Erlebnisse in nationalsozialistischer Zeit geprägt, traumatisiert, in jedem Fall betroffen und verändert wurden. Wie in Familien mit den Erfahrungen, dem Trauma umgegangen wurde, wie Eltern dies selbst bearbeiteten, wie sie ihren Kindern davon berichteten – oder eben nicht – ist entscheidend, wie diese Erfahrungen auf die zweite und dritte Generation ein- und fortwirken.
