The “International School for Holocaust Studies” in Yad Vashem is an educational institution for learning and teaching about the Shoah. It is located in the Holocaust memorial Yad Vashem and has recourse to the vast range of resources, exhibitions and memorials of this unique memorial site. On the basis of this and during years of collaboration with “erinnern.at” a seminar program of very high standard has evolved. It contains the following content blocks: Jewish life in Europe before the Holocaust, the mass murder of Jews; life after the Holocaust: rebuilding the Jewish communities and the question of pursuing the criminals in the courts, Israel and the history of the Holocaust, the materials that are used to teach the Holocaust and reflection on the personal approaches and experiences of the seminar participants. The “Center for Humanistic Education” at the memorial Lohamei Hagetoat specializes in working with Arabic/Palestinian youths from northern Israel and with Jewish youths on the Holocaust and on the individual narratives that exist in this regard within the respective groups. For Austrian teachers it is particularly interesting to see on location how diversity and confluent narratives can be dealt with.

Die „International School for Holocaust Studies“ in Yad Vashem ist eine Bildungseinrichtung zum Lernen und Lehren über die Shoah. Situiert in der israelischen Holocaust Gedenkstätte Yad Vashem kann sie auf die reichhaltigen Ressourcen, Ausstellungen und Denkmäler dieser einmaligen Gedenkstätte zurückgreifen. Auf dieser Grundlage entsteht in jahrelanger Zusammenarbeit mit „erinnern.at“ ein ausgefeiltes Seminarprogramm, das folgende inhaltliche Blöcke umfasst: Jüdisches Leben in Europa vor dem Holocaust, der Massenmord an den Juden; das Leben nach dem Holocaust: Wiederaufbau von jüdischen Gemeinden und die Frage der justiziellen Verfolgung der Täter, Israel und die Geschichte des Holocaust, wie mit welchen Materialien über den Holocaust unterrichtet wird und die Reflexion der persönlichen Zugänge und Erfahrungen der SeminarteilnehmerInnen. Das „Center for Humanistic Education“ an der Gedenkstätte Lohamei Hagetoat ist darauf spezialisiert, mit arabisch/palästinensischen Jugendlichen aus Nordisrael sowie mit jüdischen Jugendlichen über den Holocaust und damit verbunden über die jeweiligen in den einzelnen Gruppen vorhandenen Narrative zu arbeiten. Für österreichische LehrerInnen ist es insbesondere interessant direkt am Ort des Geschehens zu sehen, wie mit Diversität und konfluierenden Narrativen umgegangen werden kann.
