2018 will mark the 80th anniversary of the death of Ödön von Horváth. To mark this occasion the Theater Museum is planning a comprehensive exhibition. Starting with his early political dramas, moving on to his famous folk plays and then to his later work, the exhibition at the Theater Museum will seek to present the fundamental ingredients of Horvath’s drama and poetics. It will examine the key locations of his work, such as Rummelplatz and the tavern, as well as central subjects such as the middle classes and the economic threat to which they are subject, the language masks, gender roles, relationship models and the political substance and explosiveness of Horváth’s work. Besides the exhibition, the most important elements of the project are a publication, an accompanying program and a diverse range of educational programs, particularly for schoolchildren and students. The Theater Museum’s exhibition and book project focuses on the striking political and social modernity of Horváth’s work.

2018 jährt sich zum 80. Mal der Tod Ödon von Horváths. Aus diesem Anlass plant das Theatermuseum eine umfangreiche Ausstellung. Angefangen bei seiner früheren politischen Dramatik über die berühmten Volksstücke und bis hinein in das Spätwerk versucht die Ausstellung im Theatermuseum wesentliche Ingredienzien der Horváth’schen Dramatik und Poetik vor Augen zu führen. Dabei soll es um zentrale Schauplätze wie den Rummelplatz und das Wirtshaus, bestimmende Themen wie den Mittelstand und seine ökonomische Bedrohung, um Sprachmasken, Geschlechterrollen, Beziehungsmodelle sowie um die politische Substanz und Brisanz der Werke Horváths gehen. Die wichtigsten Teile des Projekts sind neben der Ausstellung eine Publikation, ein Begleitprogramm und ein vielfältiges Vermittlungsangebot insbesondere für SchülerInnen und Studierende. Das Ausstellungs- und Buchprojekt des Theatermuseums fokussiert die frappante politische und soziale Aktualität von Horváths Werk.
