“For as long as the dead still speak to me, I will raise my voice to be heard.” With “Nothing is So Powerful as Fear” Stefan Horvath, awarded the Theodor Kramer Prize for resistance and exile writing in 2016, has brought out a highly personal book. Subjects that have preoccupied the author from the Oberwart Roma settlement from the beginning of his writing career come to bear in narrative and lyrical form in this collage of texts: himself the descendant of two concentration camp survivors, he uses fictional stories to give the victims of the concentration camp a voice. He gives a vivid description of his childhood and youth in the Roma settlement and calls into question the developments and changes that led to the horrific attack in 1995, as well as the present situation of the Roma. It is a text against forgetting, but at the same time a text about not being able to forget. The wounds have not healed, instead leaving scars – recent events reopen them resulting in texts like the ones in this book: moving and characterized by silent pain.

„Solange die Toten mit mir reden, werde ich immer meine Stimme erheben.“ Stefan Horvath, 2016 ausgezeichnet mit dem Theodor-Kramer-Preis für Schreiben im Widerstand und Exil, legt mit „So gewaltig ist nichts wie die Angst“ ein sehr persönliches Buch vor. Themen, die den Autor aus der Oberwarter Roma-Siedlung seit Beginn seines Schreibens unentwegt beschäftigen, finden in dieser Collage von Texten in erzählerischer und lyrischer Form Ausdruck: mit fiktiven Geschichten verleiht der Nachkomme von zwei KZ-Überlebenden den Opfern der Konzentrationslager eine Stimme. Anschaulich beschreibt er seine Kindheit und sein Heranwachsen in der Roma-Siedlung und er stellt Fragen nach Entwicklungen sowie Veränderungen, die das schreckliche Attentat 1995 zur Folge hatte, wie auch nach der gegenwärtigen Situation der Volksgruppe. Es ist ein Schreiben gegen das Vergessen, aber auch ein Nicht-Vergessen-Können. Die Wunden sind vernarbt, doch nicht verheilt – aktuelle Ereignisse brechen sie auf und es entstehen Texte wie in diesem Buch: berührend und geprägt von stillem Schmerz.
