The film was conceived for cinema, festivals and television. Beyond their testimonies, the protagonists provide the audience with a surface on which to project a personal approach. “Why the Wound Remains Open” also provides access to an audience that has not been educated in the theory and can be used as teaching material in history lessons at school or university level. The film does not seek to achieve a particularly historical or conceptual aesthetic. Furthermore, the subtitles mean that the cinematic document can be made available to English-speaking Roma researchers.

Der Film wurde sowohl für Kino, Festivals als auch für TV konzipiert. Die Protagonistinnen bilden jenseits ihrer Aussagen Projektionsfläche für eine persönliche Annäherung. „Warum die Wunde offen bleibt“ bietet ebenso einen Zugang für ein nicht theoretisch vorgebildetes Publikum, verwendbar etwa als Geschichts-Lehrmaterial in Schulen und Universitäten. Die Filmform orientiert sich nicht an einer etwaigen historischen, konzeptuellen Ästhetik. Des weiteren kann mit einer Untertitelung das Filmdokument auch der Englischsprachigen Romaforschung zur Verfügung gestellt werden.
