Description
The project “March of the Living” is an annual educational program that brings schoolchildren from around the world to Poland to study the history of the Holocaust and investigate the roots of prejudice, intolerance and hatred. Since the first March of the Living, which took place in 1988, over 160,000 young people from all over the world have marched the same route from Auschwitz to Birkenau on Holocaust Remembrance Day. This three-kilometer-long march is a silent tribute to all who fell victim to the Holocaust. The march itself takes place on 12 April 2018. The project comprises an educational program that takes place over the course of several weeks, staring with preparatory workshops in February and March in the run-up to the March. Following the return from Poland debriefings are held along with other group get-togethers to wind up the project.

Das Projekt „March of the Living” ist ein jährliches Erziehungsprogramm, welches SchülerInnen und StudentInnen von der ganzen Welt nach Polen bringt, um die Geschichte des Holocaust zu studieren und die Wurzeln von Vorurteilen, Intoleranz und Hass zu untersuchen. Seit dem ersten „March of the Living“, das im Jahr 1988 stattfand, sind mehr als 160.000 Jugendliche aus der ganzen Welt am Holocaust-Gedenktag von Auschwitz nach Birkenau den gleichen Weg marschiert. Dieser Dreikilometer-Marsch ist ein stiller Tribut an alle Opfer des Holocaust. Der Marsch selbst findet am Donnerstag, den 12. April 2018 statt. Das Projekt ist ein sich über mehrere Wochen andauerndes Bildungsprogramm, welches bereits mit mehreren Vorbereitungs-Workshops vor dem Marsch im Februar und März startet. Zudem finden nach der Rückkehr von Polen Nachbesprechungen und weitere Gruppentreffen zum Abschluss des Projekts statt.
