Two commemoration events of the Jewish Community Vienna's Youth Commission

Zwei Gedenkveranstaltungen der Jugendkommission der IKG Wien

 

The Youth Commission of the Jewish Community Vienna is holding two Holocaust remembrance ceremonies with the active and voluntary involvement of young Jewish people in their planning and realization. On 6 May 2018 the Youth Commission will provide busses for the youths so that they can participate in the remembrance ceremony of the camp community Mauthausen. They will also visit the museum and the former concentration camp Mauthausen. Finally the remembrance ceremony will be held in front of the Jewish memorial of the former concentration camp. On 9 November 2018 a remembrance procession of lights organized by the Youth Commission of the Jewish Community Vienna will take place, “Light of Hope”. The young people will gather in front of the only synagogue in Vienna not to be destroyed during the November pogrom, the Vienna City Temple, and march together through the Inner City in a procession of lights. The will remember the terrible atrocities of the past and, at the same time, send a signal of hope for the future.

Die Jugendkommission der IKG Wien veranstaltet im Jahr 2018 unter anderem zwei Holocaust bezogene Gedenkveranstaltungen, bei denen jüdische Jugendliche aktiv und ehrenamtlich bei der Vorbereitung und Durchführung der Gedenkzeremonien involviert werden. Am 06. Mai 2018 stellt die Jugendkommission Busse für Jugendliche zur Verfügung, um an der allgemeinen Gedenkkundgebung der Lagergemeinschaft Mauthausen teilzunehmen. Darüber hinaus findet eine organisierte Besichtigung des Museums und des ehemaligen Konzentrationslagers Mauthausen statt. Abschließend wird die Gedenkveranstaltung vor dem Jüdischen Mahnmal des ehemaligen KZ Mauthausen abgehalten. Am 09. November 2018 findet der von der Jugendkommission der IKG Wien organisierte Gedenklichterzug „Light of Hope“ statt. Vor der einzigen Synagoge Wiens, welche nicht in der Pogromnacht zerstört wurde, dem Wiener Stadttempel, versammeln sich Jugendliche, um gemeinsam in einem Lichterzug durch die Innenstadt zu marschieren. Sie erinnern sich an die schrecklichen Geschehnisse der Vergangenheit und setzen sogleich ein Zeichen der Hoffnung an die Zukunft.
