Grove of flight – a spiritual place of remembrance and hope

49 trees, two large natural stones and a prism characterize the cultural project of the Alpine Peace Crossing with the National Park Hohe Tauern, which runs directly along the escape route of over 5,000 prisoners from Givat Avoda/Saalfelden to Italy. With this installation the APC is nurturing the culture of remembrance of the victims of National Socialism and, at the same time, calling for us to keep an alert eye on the present waves of migration and flight and to act humanely. 17 of the 49 trees are dedicated to persons whose fate is inextricably linked to the former camp Givat Avoda for displaced persons in Saalfelden or with the Jewish exodus across the Krimmler Tauern in 1947. Others pay tribute to people who played a role in the establishment of the APC and, as such, contributed to the revitalization of this escape route and help shape the social and integration work of the APC. The prism bears a text in German, English and Italian explaining the installation commemorating the Jewish exodus over the Krimmler Tauern in 1947 and the meaning of the trees.

49 Bäume, zwei große Natursteine und ein Prisma charakterisieren das Kulturprojekt von Alpine Peace Crossing (APC) mit dem Nationalpark Hohe Tauern, direkt an der Fluchtroute, der über 5.000 Insassen von Givat Avoda/Saalfelden nach Italien folgten. APC pflegt mit dieser Installation die Erinnerungskultur an die Opfer des Nationalsozialismus und appelliert gleichzeitig, aktuellen Migrations- und Fluchtbewegungen mit wachem Blick zu begegnen und als Mensch zu handeln. 17 der 49 Bäume sind Personen gewidmet, deren Schicksal untrennbar mit dem ehemaligen Lager Givat Avoda für „Displaced People“ in Saalfelden beziehungsweise mit dem Jüdischen Exodus 1947 über den Krimmler Tauern verbunden ist. Andere würdigen jene Menschen, die zur Gründung von APC und damit auch zur Wiederbelebung dieses Fluchtweges beigetragen haben und die Sozial- und Integrationsarbeit von APC mitgestalten. Das Prisma trägt einen Text in Deutsch, Englisch und Italienisch, der die Installation mit dem Gedenken an den jüdischen Exodus über den Krimmler Tauern im Jahr 1947 begründet und den Sinn der Bäume und Steine erläutert.
