The forgotten wound – symbol of remembrance

Die vergessene Wunde – Erinnerungszeichen

 

In partnership with the Documentation Centre of Austrian Resistance a sign of remembrance will be erected in memory of the 29 March 1945, day of the “Death March” of the Hungarian Jews from Petrzalka (Engerau aka Audorf, Hungarian: Pozsonyligetfalu) to Bad Deutsch Altenburg. From there they were transported to Mauthausen concentration camp by ship. The project forms the conclusion of the event series “Growing remembrance – watchful commemoration”. The planned sign of remembrance will be made of glass and installed on a square near the Ungartor. The text will be in German, English, Slovakian and Hungarian.

In Zusammenarbeit mit dem Dokumentationsarchiv des österreichischen Widerstand erfolgt die Errichtung eines Erinnerungszeichens im Gedenken an den 29. März 1945, dem Tag des „Todesmarsches“ der ungarischen Juden aus Petrzalka (Engerau, auch Audorf, ungarisch Pozsonyligetfalu) nach Bad Deutsch Altenburg. Von dort ist der Abtransport per Schiff ins KZ Mauthausen erfolgt. Das Projekt bildet den Abschluss der Veranstaltungsreihe „Wachsendes Erinnern – wachsames Gedenken“. Das geplante Erinnerungszeichen soll in Glas ausgeführt und auf einem Platz nahe dem Ungartor aufgestellt werden. Der Text des Erinnerungszeichens wird in deutscher, englischer, slowakischer sowie in ungarischer Sprache niedergeschrieben.
