November 2018 is the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the Austrian Communist Party. To mark this occasion the association “transform!at” wants to publish a large format pictorial in which the Party’s history will be documented for the first time with a selection of photographs. Special attention will be paid to the period from 1938 to 1945 when, as historical researchers have since established, the Communist Party was the most significant political force in the anti-Fascist resistance and a key factor in countries of exile. Additional research will be undertaken at the Documentation Centre of Austrian Resistance, the Picture Archive of the Austrian National Bank as well as in other smaller collections, some of which are privately owned. In addition to historical photographs, pictures of historical objects such as placards, leaflets, covers of brochures and books, badges and other memorabilia will be published. The pictorial will attempt to connect the political and organizational history of the party with the social and cultural history of Austrian Communism. It will focus on the Communist Party as a social movement, which gained its impetus not only from the October Revolution but also the domestic workers’ movement.

Im November 2018 jährt sich zum 100. Mal der Jahrestag der Gründung der Kommunistischen Partei Österreichs. Der Verein „transform!at“ nimmt dies zum Anlass, einen großformatigen Bildband herauszubringen, in dem erstmals die Geschichte der Partei mit ausgewählten Fotos dokumentiert wird. Breiten Raum nimmt darin die Periode 1938 bis 1945 ein, als die österreichischen KommunistInnen, wie die historische Forschung festgestellt hat, die wichtigste politische Kraft des antifaschistischen Widerstands und einen maßgeblichen Faktor in den Exilländern darstellten. Ergänzende Recherchen finden im DÖW, im Bildarchiv der Österreichischen Nationalbank sowie in kleineren, teilweise auch privaten Sammlungen statt. Neben historischen Fotos gelangen auch Abbildungen historischer Objekte, wie etwa Plakate, Streuzettel, Cover von Broschüren und Büchern, Abzeichen und andere Memorabilien, zum Abdruck. Der Bildband versucht die Politik- und Organisationsgeschichte der Partei mit seiner Sozial- und Kulturgeschichte des österreichischen Kommunismus zu verbinden. Im Mittelpunkt steht die KPÖ als soziale Bewegung, die ihre Impulse nicht nur aus der Oktoberrevolution, sondern vor allem aus der heimischen ArbeiterInnenbewegung und österreichischen sozialen Bewegung bezog.
