The project “Hartheim killing centre & Nazi euthanasia in ‘Oberdonau’ - historical reappraisal, documentation, communication" aims to conduct research into various aspects of Nazi euthanasia at Hartheim Castle and the “Reichsgau Oberdonau” as well as Nazi health and population policy on the one hand and, on the other, to publicise the results, content and themes of the centre and communicate them to visitors as part of educational programmes and exhibitions. Research into the victims of decentralised Nazi euthanasia in Niedernhart (Linz) and their burial sites is part of the proposed project. The intention is to research the biographies of the persecuted and murdered people, to collect and archive relevant documents and materials and to prepare them for use in exhibitions. In the area of education, further training of the guides and the further development of the educational programme at the Hartheim Castle learning and memorial site will be added. The commemoration of the victims of Nazi euthanasia, research into their names and the reconstruction of their biographies continue to be a central area of work at the learning and memorial centre. The cataloguing of new sources and collections, the ongoing expansion of the archival collection and the corresponding analysis of the documents are an important part of the work here. The documents and results are also to be prepared for exhibition purposes and incorporated into the educational work, which also needs to be constantly revised and supplemented.

Das Projekt „Tötungsanstalt Hartheim & NS-Euthanasie in ‚Oberdonau' - historische Aufarbeitung, Dokumentation, Vermittlung“ setzt sich einerseits zum Ziel, Forschungen zu verschiedenen Aspekten der NS-Euthanasie in Schloss Hartheim und dem „Reichsgau Oberdonau“ sowie der NS-Gesundheits- und Bevölkerungspolitik zu betreiben und andererseits die Ergebnisse, Inhalte und Themen des Hauses an die Öffentlichkeit zu tragen bzw. im Rahmen von pädagogischen Angeboten und Ausstellungen an die Besucher:innen zu vermitteln. Forschungen zu den Opfern der dezentralen NS-Euthanasie in Niedernhart (Linz) und ihren Bestattungsorten sind Teil des beantragten Projekts. Es ist beabsichtigt, zu den Biografien der verfolgten bzw. ermordeten Menschen zu forschen, entsprechende Dokumente und Materialien sollen gesammelt und archiviert sowie für den Einsatz im Ausstellungsbetrieb aufbereitet werden. Im Bereich der Vermittlung kommen die Weiterbildung der Guides und die Weiterentwicklung des pädagogischen Angebots des Lern- und Gedenkorts Schloss Hartheim hinzu. Das Gedenken an die Opfer der NS-Euthanasie, die Recherche nach ihren Namen und die Rekonstruktion ihrer Biografien stellen dabei nach wie vor einen zentralen Arbeitsbereich des Lern- und Gedenkorts dar. Die Erschließung neuer Quellen und Bestände, die laufende Erweiterung der archivalischen Sammlung und die entsprechende Auswertung der Unterlagen sind hier ein wichtiger Bestandteil der Arbeit. Die Unterlagen und Ergebnisse sollen zudem für Ausstellungszwecke aufbereitet werden und in die Vermittlungsarbeit einfließen, die ebenfalls laufend überarbeitet und ergänzt werden muss.
