Yiddish Theater Weeks 2004

In October 2004, to mark the 10th anniversary of the “Yiddish Theater Weeks”, two plays were performed in Theater Akzent by the theater troop 'Yiddish Theatre of the Saidye Bronfman Center' from Montreal. This Yiddish theater festival in Vienna follows on from the rich tradition of Yiddish theater in the city prior to 1938 and attempts to awaken memories of that which once was and to commemorate it. The performances make a contribution towards the Yiddish language, almost eradicated by the Holocaust, appearing on stage once again.

Im Oktober 2004 werden zum zehnjährigen Jubiläum der 'Jiddischen Theaterwochen' zwei Stücke der Truppe 'Yiddish Theatre of the Saidye Bronfman Center' aus Montreal im Theater Akzent aufgeführt. Diese bereits seit zehn Jahren existierenden Festspiele des Jiddischen Theaters in Wien knüpfen an die reiche Tradition des Jiddischen Theaters der Stadt vor 1938 an und versuchen in dieser Weise, das Gewesene in Erinnerung zu rufen und ihm zu gedenken. Die Aufführungen tragen ein Stück dazu bei, dass die durch den Holocaust so gut wie vernichtete jiddische Sprache wieder auf der Bühne gespielt wird.
