A fundamental task of the association is conduction research into the victims of the National Socialist euthanasia program. The “Memorial Book Hartheim” remains of key importance. Of the 30,000 victims who were imprisoned or murdered in the castle, the names and personal details of almost 19,000 could be researched. The names were made public at the memorial. The association’s tasks include: completing the work on the memorial book, assisting those entitled to restitution in their search for documents; helping the victims and their families to come to terms with the subject; enabling subsequent generations, school students and adults in the field of social and health care to access the subject; promoting and developing the cooperation with the National Fund by providing the outcomes of the research and assisting in determining people entitled to claim.

Eine wesentliche Aufgabe des Vereins besteht in der Recherche der Opfer des NS-Euthanasie-Programms. Das 'Gedenkbuch Hartheim' bleibt ein zentrales Anliegen. Von den 30.000 Opfern, die im Schloss inhaftiert bzw. ermordet wurden, konnten nahezu 19.000 Namen und Daten recherchiert werden. Die Namen wurden in der Gedenkstätte öffentlich gemacht. Zu den Aufgaben des Vereins zählen: die Arbeit am Gedenkbuch Hartheim zu vollenden, Anspruchsberechtigten der Restitution bei der Suche nach Dokumenten behilflich zu sein; den Opfern und ihren Angehörigen in der Auseinandersetzung mit dem Thema zu helfen und beizustehen; den nachfolgenden Generationen, SchülerInnen und Erwachsenen im Sozial- und Gesundheitswesen den Zugang zum Thema zu ermöglichen; die Zusammenarbeit mit dem Nationalfonds durch Zur-Verfügung-Stellen der Forschungsergebnisse zu fördern und zu entwickeln und damit bei der Feststellung von Anspruchsberechtigten zu helfen.
